UTV Trail Riding Tips
There are few things more fun and exciting than tearing up a trail in your UTV. However, there are a lot of things that can go wrong while trail riding if you’re not careful. By behaving responsibly, you can mitigate the risks and enjoy a safe, fun day out on the trails. This list of tips from Car Corral Polaris can help you better enjoy your UTV trail ride.
Stick to Designated Trails
Designated trails may feel limiting, but there’s a reason that they exist. Going off trail in your UTV can spook animals, trample vegetation, and generally disrupt the local environment. There’s also a serious possibility that your side by side will encounter an obstacle that it wasn’t built to handle. There’s no worse place to have an accident than off the trail, since you’re much more isolated from help. For all these reasons and more, it’s illegal to go off trail when riding on state or federal land.
Safety Equipment
You and everyone riding with you in your UTV should wear safety gear, including a helmet, goggles that provide anti-fog/UV protection, and full-length clothing to protect your skin. All UTV riding gear should be well fitting and provide proper protection (e.g. helmets should be DOT certified).
Be Polite
Following basic trail etiquette helps make the trail riding experience more enjoyable for others and helps keep everyone safe. Be sure to give other riders the right of way when necessary and inform them if there’s any riders coming up behind you. If trail conditions are poor, be sure to inform others when you get the chance. Finally, if you see other riders stopped on the side of the trail, check that they are simply taking a photo or resting and not in need of serious aid.
